“An Introduction to Musicals for those who hate Musicals”
On Sunday October 23 Thom Ernst delighted and surprised us with a toe-tapping talk on his love of musicals. From All That Jazz, to Pennies From Heaven, to Pitch Perfect – we remembered, and discovered, much loved musicals through the decades. It was a wonderful Sunday, the last in our 10 day long annual film festival. We couldn’t have asked for a more engaging, fun and delicious way to begin the final day of BFF19.

Thom Ernst is a film critic, commentator and broadcaster, and although he can neither sing nor dance, he has long been an outspoken champion of the movie musical.
“Because no one breaks out in song and dance in reality is not what’s wrong with musicals, it’s what’s wrong with reality.” – Thom Ernst
Using film clips and soundtracks to some of the best moments in music movie history, Thom revealed his passion and affection for what many see as one of the most maligned genres in the movie industry.
Thom led a delightful and fun discussion; we are honoured that our festival guests bring such emotion and enthusiasm for their craft and passions. For those of us that love musicals, the list of films he shared will keep our toes tapping and cravings for musicals satiated.
Of course Sunday Brunch began with mimosas, and our plates were filled with a mouthwatering assortment of sweet and savoury dishes, catered by Cravings Fine Food Market & Catering, the meal was delicious.
If you attended our Festival Brunch with Thom Ernst, we are sure you’ll agree that it was a great final event for our 19th Annual Film Festival – a Sunday morning well spent.
